Welcome to Pixentient.com.
This site serves two purposes - the first, and most obvious, is as
somewhere to show a selection of the photographs I have taken over the past
twenty years or more.
I took up photography seriously in 1987, when I extravagantly spent
a whole month's wages on a high-end Nikon SLR, and a couple of years later set up a darkroom at home
which I used well into the digital age. I have probably owned around fifty or sixty cameras
since then, and still have about fifteen.
Despite all that, it has really only been in the past few years
that I have really developed my own style and ideas about what I want to capture in my photographs,
and I hope that comes across in the images on this site - any comments about my photographs
would be welcome.
The site's second purpose is as somewhere to try out web site development ideas, techniques
and technologies.
I have
been writing software for a living since the mid 1990s, and on and off before that going back to 1981,
but have only recently taken up web development in a big way.
My background in traditional software
development means this site looks
and behaves much more like a desktop application than a conventional web site - a deliberate decision
which I am also using for a few other sites I am working on.
If you are interested, this site is built
using Microsoft ASP .NET 4.0 and C# 4.0, SQL Server 2008 and Entity Framework 4.0. There is also quite a bit of
JavaScript and JQuery to make things work on the client side, including connecting to a Web Service to interact with the server using JSON.
As with the photographs themselves, if
you have any comments about the geeky side of things I would be pleased to hear from you,
Thanks,
Chris.
